It is no secret that the ever increasing student loan debt is the greatest threat to financial prosperity for orthodontists all across the country. In this presentation, we will discuss the facts, myths, and intricacies of student loans, both federal and private. In addition, we will review when and how to begin saving for retirement while carrying student loan debt. Finally, we will also discuss how to manage student loan repayment with practice purchases and personal living expenses.

After this lecture you will be able to:

1.) Identify when to focus on savings and went to prepay student loan debt.
2.) Identify when it is appropriate to refinance federal student loans through private refinancing.
3.) Discover ways to shift nondeductible student loan interest to become tax-deductible.

Andrew Tucker is an associate with John K. McGill & Co., Inc. He is a licensed attorney in the State of North Carolina and has been admitted for practice before the United States Tax Court.
