Dealing with dental insurance for our patients can be both a blessing and a curse, as it helps patients afford much needed orthodontic treatment but necessitates substantial work on our part. A systematic and consistent insurance protocol is imperative for your orthodontic practice to be profitable. Whether your practice accepts the assignment or not, or is in-network or not, this presentation will help clear up some of the challenging aspects of the process. We will discuss terminology used in insurance submission, review specific dental insurance codes, and share many tips and tricks to help you maximize receipt of insurance benefit payments. As coding can be quite confusing Dr. Depew will discuss how to accurately use the various CDT and ICD-10 codes you may use in your practice as well as the implications of the Affordable Care Act.

After this lecture, you will be able to:

  • Identify the proper terminology and codes needed for accurate insurance submission.
  • Develop a system to submit and follow-up on insurance claims to help satisfy patient accounts and help your patients take advantage of their benefits.
  • Choose the level of involvement your practice will have with insurance companies.
